Mississippi River Flood

In May, the rain finally surpassed what the good ol' Mississippi could handle. We had what was called the Flood of the Century. On the day that the river was to crest, Daddy came home for lunch and we you guys down to witness it in person. It was pretty amazing to see Riverside and some of Beale underwater. For the first time in history, the BBQ festival had to be moved away from the river to the Liberty Bowl. Lots of first for the Bluff City. I don't think you boys quite grasped the magnitude of this event, but hopefully you will look back one day and remember that you were there to see it first hand. Hopefully, it's something that we'll never see again!

The news crews from local and National stations were on site to cover the flood.

Walking down to see the water up close

Don't put your feet in there! That's some yucky water!

I found this sign to be ironic!

These teenage boys were trying to get on camera and went swimming in the water. Yuck! Just hope they didn't end up sick. The news was warning people to stay out of the water because sewage, snakes and who knows what else had been found in the flood waters.

So many people were effected by this flood all up and down the Mississippi River. We were so blessed that it wasn't worse than it was. We were talking to an older gentleman that was in his 80's and had come out to see the river. He said he had never seen anything like it in all his years of living in Memphis. It is something I will definitely remember!
